Cookie policy

Short, because there is almost nothing to describe.

This site sets no cookies of its own

The pages here are plain HTML and CSS. As published they set no cookies, embed no players or frames, run no analytics and carry no advertising or tracking script. Two pieces of JavaScript exist on the site and both are named here: the notice at the foot of the page, which writes one entry in your browser’s local storage when you close it, and the message form on Contact, which is described in the next section and is the only file this site loads from another domain. There is no consent banner asking permission for cookies, because there are none to ask about.

The message form on the contact page

One page of this site, Contact, carries a form. It is drawn and sent by a script served from fortunida.com, which handles it on the newsroom’s behalf and is the processor of what you type: the message itself and, if you fill them in, the name and the return address you give. There is no other field, and nothing is pre-filled from the page you came from. The purpose is narrow — to let a reader send a correction or a question without a mail client — and the basis is your own act of sending it. The message reaches the same mailbox a letter would, is kept as long as the correspondence is useful and no longer, and is not used for a mailing list, not profiled and not passed on. Writing to [email protected] instead avoids the form altogether; so does not using it, which costs nothing but the mail client. To have a message deleted, ask at the same address.

What the server records

The web server keeps the standard access log that every web server keeps: the address requested, the time, the response code, the referring page and the browser’s own user-agent string, together with the IP address the request came from. It is used to see whether pages are reachable and to find errors. It is not joined to any profile, not sold and not shared, and it is the only record of a visit that exists.

Links that leave this site

Some pages — the commercial material that predates this portal, and sources cited in newsroom material — link to other sites. Following such a link takes a reader to a site with its own cookies, its own trackers and its own policy, over which this portal has no control and from which it receives no data about the reader.

Images and fonts

Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences and are re-encoded and served from this domain; the author and licence are printed under each frame. The display typeface is served from this domain as well. No font, style or image is fetched from a third-party domain, and the only script that is comes from fortunida.com on the contact page — which is why these pages set nothing in a reader’s browser.
